African Boreholes Initiative (ABI-NGO) has once again identified an area of great need at the Eldama Ravine Girls’ High School. The School is experiencing a severe water shortage. The girls walk 2km daily to get untreated water from Perkerra River; studies have shown that this directly impacts the education of the student population; in addition to poor hygiene, sanitation and increased water borne illnesses.
While the students have managed steady improvement on their national exam since SY 2000; the water shortage continues to be a burden. ABI-NGO is proposing the construction of a borehole on-site at the school which would provide clean drinking water and improved sanitation for the children, staff and local community. ABI_NGO has begun the fundraising process, at the completion thereof, we will immediately begin the construction phases of the borehole procedures. ABI-NGO and its sponsors have successfully completed a 200 meter borehole at the Mogotio Girls’ school in 2010. Our 2011 projection is to totally complete the installation of a borehole for the 2011-2012 school year.
